Azithromycin Tablets for Various Bacterial Infections

Even if you have never known about azithromycin tablets before, chances are that you have already taken it at some point in your life.

Azithromycin tablets come in 3 dosages: 250, 500 and 600 mg, and they have been approved by the FDA in the year 1991.  Azithromycin tablets are very effective in battling against bacteria that causes a wide variety of infections.  Azithromycin is a macrolide antibiotic that stops bacteria from growing further by meddling with their ability to create proteins. Because there are huge differences in the way proteins are created in humans and bacteria, azithromycin tablets do not meddle or cause imbalances in the production of protein within the human body.

Medical Uses of Azithromycin Tablets

Azithromycin tablets have many medical uses.  The azithromycin tablets are prescribed in cases such as:

  • Infection of the middle ear (medically termed otitis media) which is caused by bacteria.
  • Tonsillitis
  • Laryngitis
  • Bronchitis
  • Pneumonia
  • Sinusitis
  • Uncomplicated skin issues and other skin infections
  • Mycobacterium avium complex (MAC)

The recommended dose of azithromycin tablets (Zithromax) for prevention of MAC disease is 1,200 mg, to be taken once a week.

  • Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
  • Acute pelvic inflammatory disease
  • Sexually transmitted disease such as cervicitis and non-gonococcal urethritis

The recommended dose of azithromycin tablets (brand name Zithromax) for treatment of STDs such as cervicitis caused by C. trachomatis and non-gonococcal urethritis is 1000 mg or 1 gram, and can be administered as a single dose.

Recommended Dosing of Azithromycin Tablets

Azithromycin tablets normally can be taken with food, but it is also okay if it is taken with an empty stomach.  Some doctors recommend taking azithromycin tablets with food to avoid getting an upset stomach.  In case you are taking azithromycin tablets that are branded, like Zmax, they must be taken only with an empty stomach 2 hours after or 1 hour before having a meal because food lowers its absorption rate, rendering it a bit ineffective.

For most cases of infections, azithromycin tablets are supposed to be taken once per day for only a short period of time, for instance, 5 days.  Oftentimes, the first dose is a “double dose”, which is two times as much as the remainder of the given azithromycin tablets doses.

In case the patient is suffering from acute bacterial sinusitis, azithromycin tablets may be suggested and it is to be taken once per day for a course of 3 days.  If branded azithromycin tablets are used, such as Zmax, it is typically administered as a single 2-gram dose.

What You Should Know If You Are Prescribed Azithromycin Tablets

Always follow what your doctor has instructed you if you are going to take azithromycin tablets.  Take it orally, and depending on your doctor’s orders, take it only once per day with or without food.  The dosage of azithromycin tablets you will consume depends on your current medical ailment and your responsiveness to the treatment.  Every antibiotic works best if you have taken it at a regular level in your body.  Thus, it is suggested that you take azithromycin at the same time per day.  In case you feel better or the symptoms have already gone in a few days, continue to take azithromycin tablets until you have finished the prescription specified by your doctor.  Stopping your medication a little too early may lead to the remaining bacteria continuing to grow, and this can result in a nasty reappearance of the infection.

Does Finasteride Generic Affect the Testosterone Levels in the Human Body?

What is Finasteride? It is a drug which fits in to the class of the androgen inhibitors that also means it obstructs the generation of the male sex hormones. These are sold throughout Canada and the U.S listed under the brand names Propecia and Proscar.

The Purpose of Finasteride

This drug serves two major purposes: a) the stimulation of fresh hair growth in males with male pattern baldness and b) treating of urinary problems in males caused by BPH (benign prostatic hypertrophy) also known as enlargement of the prostate gland.

Finasteride acts to alleviate some signs of prostate enlargement such as incontinence, nocturia (the need to frequently pee at night), dysuria or painful urination by hindering the production of DHT or dihydrotestosterone. This DHT is the one causing the prostate gland to swell and boost the pressure on the bladder. As the inflated prostate minimizes little by little, the patient then feels it becomes easier to urinate minus the discomfort and to completely empty his bladder Continue reading
